Sou'wester

A sou'wester is a waterproof hat with a wide piece at the back to protect the neck, worn especially by sailors. It is popular with rainwear fetishists. They are frequently yellow, but other colours are available.
Traditionally, they were made from oilskin (cloth covered in oil-based substances to make it waterproof). However, rubberized cloth is now often used.
In American English, a sou'wester coat is a matching waterproof coat.
