BDSM
BDSM is the accepted English abbreviation for the sub-genre of human sexuality covering domination and forms of input sensory control techniques. BDSM is generally regarded as an acronym of the words Bondage, Domination, Sadism and Masochism.
Many people outside of BDSM appreciation generally confuse or deliberately equate BDSM, which is usually a consensual submission, with rape and kidnapping which are not consensual agreed upon acts between known partners, and condemn it on that false basis.

Setting
It is commonly practised in private homes with little accessories (if needed) extracted from out of sight storage boxes for the duration of the playtime, but some with rooms to spare convert a room or cellar into a dungeon, a space designed with readily available fastening points or domination equipment. If dedicating a whole room only for use as a dungeon is not feasible, one can try to have hidden and semi-permanent installations; say, a fastening hook under a carpet or a (really sturdy) locked cabinet with cuffs on the inside of the door.
Techniques
By definition, BDSM must involve one or more of its B, D, S and M components. It need not involve all of them; for example, whipping someone is sadism and if the recipient enjoys it, that is masochism, but there need not be any bondage.
While some of the techniques of BDSM are generally considered to be of a violent nature such as knife play, waxing and paddling, some of the techniques employed in BDSM can be generally considered soft, such as tickling. Though in all such exchanges, there is an obvious control that is exerted by one party over the others, in most situations this submission to the authority of the controlling party is consensual. The scope of the session is agreed upon before the act is begun, and is marked by the usage of a safety word or specific clearly identified movement to prevent any lasting harm from happening to the partner who is receiving the treatment.
