Story of O
Story of O (Original French Title: Histoire d'O) is a powerfully aggressive erotic novel, written by "Pauline Réage" and formally released in 1954, focusing on the intentional slavery of a woman to her own control and advancement.
There was much controversy regarding the true identity of the writer, as the book openly explored the then illegal actions of dominance and submission. According to most sources, the French author Anne Desclos was accepted to be Pauline Réage, though some doubt remains.
Regardless, the original book has been largely adopted as the most powerful story of BDSM actions and identity that has been released in a Romanised language. As the recognised pre-eminent BDSM story, "Story of O" has been made into several films, both in the mainstream and adult industries.
Arguably its most successful AND truthful adaption was made in hand-drawn form in 1975 by the Italian artist Guido Crepax, where the infamous branding scene is included in the illustrated book. This branding scene has NEVER been included in any of the film adaptions, despite being made AFTER far more overt sadistic mainstream films have been made, such as the 1977 United States TV broadcasted miniseries "Roots" where the onscreen branding and body destruction of the slave population is shown including the infamous Kunte losing half a foot by an axe chop.
