Breath play is a form of BDSM play in which the bottom's breath is controlled or restricted by the top.

Altering the air intake of a person may be done by various methods including gas masks, respirators, scuba equipment and breathing bags.

Latex rubber's airtight and flexible qualities mean that it can be used for airtight seals on skin as well as quick and easy joints between hoses. Latex rubber is ideal for making breath play equipment such as hoods, gas masks, rebreathing bags and tubes.

Why?

Forcing the oxygen level down can lead to lightheadedness or dizziness, which can increase the sensory inputs from sexual stimulation.

For some, the sight of the bottom struggling against their predicament can be a huge turn-on, as is the case with any bondage scene.

Some dangers

Disturbing the oxygen and CO2 level balance in your body and blood can in itself lead to a heart attack, vomiting, headache and brain damage.

Passing out makes one fall down and they might hurt themselves by hitting something - people do die from falling and hitting their head.

Besides these, precautions must be made so that if the dominating play partner were to faint (causes vary), the bottom could save themselves - so no plastic bags secured with a rubber band on a bound bottom.
